They were both right to large extent, as many of the comparisons aren't mutually exclusive.

The greatness of radio is that you can pretty much go on with your normal life while the radio is on.
Not quite the case with television... and we are being increasingly "convenienced to death" by the arrival of on-demand TV shows and movies. Americans continue to gain weight because passive activities are ever more appealing.

A great thing about camping trips, and even walking or bicycle rides, is that such activities help to ground us by eliminating, however briefly, the affectations of advertising and the weird ambiance of the shopping mall...

i find that because i am so nearnited i don't watch anyway. i listen to the tv. unless there is something i really want to pay attention to like a movie...school or rock for instance. then i sit down and put on the glasses.

otherwise i listen and don't even look at the screen most of the time.

it still requires that you stay in or near athe room tho unlike radio where you can carry it around.

i am still passive tho. most americans are. they drive instead of walking. at least i walk...i have to i can't drive a car.

i think the computer has taken over the tv for lots of us tho. and that is just as passive. at least you do interact with real people on the net.

They both seem to be right to a certain point.
I like to listen to the radio too. As a rule I have classical musical going. We have to pay for our TV/Radio licence here, but there are also licence free stations, but they are full of ads. We don´t have them as we have neither cable nor satellite TV.
So in the evening we usually watch one program preferable one film.
On the other hand we do read a lot during the day or later in the evening.
We live on three floors and strangely enough whatever I need is always on another floor. So I get lot of running up and down stairs.
