AND THE SIGN SAID...

Postby Jack of Hearts » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:36 pm

A man came upon a blind woman standing by the side of a building.
Next to her was a sign which read, 'I'm blind - help me', and a hat with very few coins in it.

The man put some coins into the hat, and he took away the sign.
After a very short while, the man returned with the sign, which he had re-written.

Now the hat more steadily began to be filled with money.

Later that day the man returned. He smiled, and again added to the hat.
The woman, recognizing the sound of his footsteps, questioned the man.

"Are you the one who took my sign?" The man said, " Yes."
She asked, "Why?" The man replied that he did not like sign, so he took it.

"So tell me, why did you return it?"
"I did not like what it said, so I rewrote it".

"I kind of suspected as much - what does read now?"
'It's a beautiful day, I wish I could see it, but I'm blind.'

"Yes, and now I can see how - It certainly is a beautiful day. Thank you!"

Touching story, underscoring the great feeling that one gets when personally helping another, often anonymously.

Yes, I too, was moved by the story.
I found it very ironic that the man helped a beggar, beg more efficiently.
But, in the big picture, everybody feels better because of his involvement.
Motivated to help, by going beyond simple pity, it shows the power of real compassion.

Not a great sign for a rainy day, eh?

What would you have written for a rainy day?

It is another beautiful day in the U.S.A. II cannot see it but I can feel it and smell the rain freshened air.

I might have said:

"I need the money so I can move to Hawaii where every day is beautiful."

Going the extra step can mean so much. Let us remember, to try it at least once, in our daily lives. :D

As Shakespeare once wrote: -

"The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

And doing it anonymously provides lasting pleasure. My wife knows, and that is enough for me.

When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.

Every positive value has its price in negative terms... the genius of Einstein leads to Hiroshima.

Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation.
