Sen. John Kerry moved to end a controversy over his decision to base his new $7 million yacht in tax-free Rhode Island, informing the Massachusetts Department of Revenue on Tuesday that he would "promptly" pay taxes as if the vessel were docked in his home state.

Tax avoidance is a treasured American pastime.
Why pay taxes you don't have to, only because it's perceived as good will?

But let's get to the point at hand, shall we?

Kerry bought the yacht last December in New Zealand, more than six months before it was spotted in Massachusetts.
http://news.bostonherald.com/track/insi ... id=1269698

And, according to the Yo Yo's link, everything was done legally, to wit: -
"Massachusetts officials said Kerry was within his rights to base the vessel in Rhode Island, despite owning homes in Nantucket and Boston, but they also said he would be liable for taxes if he brought the yacht to Massachusetts within six months of taking ownership.
The yacht was first seen in Massachusetts in July - over six months later.

Kerry avoided taxes, as the Republicans are trying to avoid taxes, by making permanent - a temporary tax law.
As I said "Tax avoidance is a treasured American pastime."

Those damned rich people. If they keep avoiding their taxes, they will only pay 60% of the income taxes.

Didn't his wife pay the $43,000 tax?

Was it more or less?

I pay all the taxes I am required to pay. Kerry legally avoided paying taxes, but he didn't evade his taxes.
He's paying all the taxes to Mass. he would have to pay, had he registered the boat there - as good will!
Yes, he's loaded, so he did - not because he had to, but because of the public's perception - such as yours.
Can't you tell the difference between legal tax avoidance, and illegal tax evasion?
He legally avoided the taxes - read the story again! Now, would you pay any taxes you don't have to pay?

Don't you just love it....people pissing and moaning over Kerry's stinking boat while the Huge Banks rake in profits after being bailed out by you and me. Huge Corporations are back on track raking in the profits while not creating the jobs they are allways given credit for...it's upside down. Every month Mr. Glitterbag and myself pay hefty Federal, State, County and City taxes....and that's not quite enough for the taxman....we also have a bill every 3 months that equates to 1 solid month of after tax income. If I can pay those taxes without complaining, I figure the author of this thread should take a long look in the mirror. But, we all know that won"t happen.
